Our School

Greenhaugh Primary School is situated in the small village of Greenhaugh, 4 miles north of Bellingham within the Northumberland National Park. The catchment area for the school includes the villages of Greenhaugh and Falstone and the surrounding farms and hamlets. The Primary School is an integral part of the local community. The school has a lovely outdoor play area including a field, a pond, a Forest School area and an Adventure Trail, which provides challenging play possibilities for all children.

There is an extensive outdoor play area for the Foundation Stage children and a new extension is now in use since we became a Primary School in September 2019. This allows us to maintain the space available for Foundation Stage children within the school.

​We place great importance on the outdoor environment and run Forest School sessions.

 

Greenhaugh Primary School caters for the educational needs of pupils aged 4 to 11 years.  We also place great importance on the children’s personal development and well-being.   There are currently 14 pupils on role divided into two classes.   In the Summer term we will run a series of morning sessions for children who will be joining reception in September. These sessions will help the children to become confident and settled in the school environment, ensuring a smooth transition the following September when they start "big school". After-school care is also provided by North Tynies in Bellingham and children can be picked up from school by prior arrangement.  (See Curriculum section for more details) The school works with other schools in the area on joint projects and has regular contact with the Middle school.  

 

Children from Greenhaugh have previously transferred to Bellingham Middle School at 9 and then to Haydon Bridge High School at 13, but parents now have the choice of their child staying at Greenhaugh for a further two years.   We ensure that at transition time, children visit their new school in their last term here so they become familiar with their new school building and meet some of their new teachers and their new classmates before they arrive in September.  We currently don't have any children in Year 5  or 6.
