Welcome to Class 2!
In Class 2 we currently have children from year 3 and 4.
Each day starts with a focus on revisiting basic skills to support children with fluency and comprehension skills. This includes practising mathematical thinking and grammatical skills. We also focus on embedding knowledge of spelling patterns and consolidating our knowledge of the times tables.
This term in Class 2, we are learning about Volcanoes in Geography and Teeth and Digestion in Science. In English, we will be basing our writing on the book 'Escape from Pompeii', linking our learning between Science and English. In Maths, we are learning about multiplication.
To support reading comprehension skills, we use 'Vipers' in Class 2. Vipers stands for Vocabulary, Inference, Prediction, Explanation, Retrieval and Summary. All of our questioning in class reading will be focus on these skills.
Please see the attached curriculum plan to get a more detailed overview of what we are doing in class.
Homework will be sent home weekly - it will consist of a reading comprehension task linked to their current reading book. There will also be weekly spellings linked to the spelling focus in class. This will be followed by a weekly spelling test in school. We ask that you read with your child every night - being a keen and confident reader will have a huge impact on every aspect of their learning, so your support is much appreciated.
